Plantar Fasciitis - Heel Spur Relief in NJ
Do you experience heel pain in the morning or after sitting for a long time? Chances are you have plantar fasciitis or heel spurs. Heel pain is one of the most common complains in the foot care world. Most of the time, pain is caused by the inflammatory condition known as plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is caused by the inflammation of the fibrous tissue on the bottom of the feet (plantar fascia). This tissue, which supports the arch of your foot when you walk, is attached to the heel bone and fans forward into the ball of the foot. Abnormal motions or stress can cause breakage of the fibers resulting in pain and swelling. The pulling of the plantar fascia on the heel bone often causes the development of the heel spur. The presence of the spur doesn’t cause pain but overstretching, swelling and degeneration of collagen fibers at the heel bone does.
If you’re suffering from plantar fasciitis, it’s most likely because of faulty foot biomechanics (flat feet or high arched feet), inflexible calf muscle, poor footwear, arthritis, diabetes, irritation or repetitive trauma to the heel tissue.
Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms
- Sharp pain and tenderness on the sole and at the heel bone when standing and walking
- Mild swelling.
Plantar Fasciitis Treatment in NJProper footwear and stretching will do wonders for heel spur treatment. But using custom orthotics, ultrasound treatment, night splints, corticosteroid injections or extracorporeal shock wave therapy may be necessary depending on the severity of your pain. Prevent plantar fasciitis by wearing supportive shoes, never walking barefoot and avoiding activities that put stress on your feet.
